Notes on True Faith in Christ...

Luke 6:46 – 49: “But why do you call me Lord, Lord, and not do the things which I say? Whoever comes to Me, and hears My sayings and does them, I will show you whom he is like: He is like a man building a house , who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently against that house, and could not shaek it, for it was founded on the rock. But he who heard and did nothing is like a man who built a house on the earth without a foundation, against which the stream beat vehemently and immediately it fell. And the ruin of that house was great.”

True Faith Will Produce Good Works:

Matthew 7:20: “Therefore by their fruits you will know them.”

The faith that says, but does not do, is unbelief.

James 1:22-25: “But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of many he was. But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues IN IT, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.”

James 2:26: “For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.”

Professing Christians who are content with only hearing the Word have made a serious spiritual miscalculation. Unless professing Christians act promptly after they hear the Word, they will forget the changes and improvements that their reflection showed them they need to make.
As the Holy Spirit applies the principles of the Scripture to believer’s hearts, they are freed from sin’s bondage and enabled to obey God. This is a process that requires us to work out our own salvation. We cannot stand by idle expecting Christ to do all the work. We must be constantly in scripture, seek to learn more of Christ – and building up the Holy Spirit within us.

Bondage to Sin

John 8:34-36: “Jesus answered them, ‘Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin. And a slaved does not abide in the house forever, but a son abides forever. Therefore if the son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.”

The ultimate bondage is not in physical slavery, but rather spiritual bondage to sin and rebellion against God.

True Way into God’s Kingdom:

Matthew 7:21-23: “Not everyone who says to Me, Lord, Lord shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, Lord, Lord have we not prophesied in your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name? And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’
